Recession in CG
Yesterday I bid adieu to some of my friends who were working in Cg movie division in Pixion watching them go at this desperate hour was heart breaking. Few days back i was content that at least in this time of turmoil in Indian Cg industry Pixion hasn't faced a big burnt of lay-offs, although salary packages were slashed no one got laid off. But i guess we caught the cold too. This made me think, has the animation industry bubble burst finally. I would say yes. The whole farce facade has been stripped, previously company use to hire in hundreds now they are laying off in hundreds.. tough times ahead, having a job itself becomes a big thing at this time of hour. Well do we see an end to this massacre of lay offs right now, not until we have a super hit animated movie and producers get faith in Indian animation content working in box office. I am sincerely hoping with all the cg movies lined up in this year that few/all do us proud. I was very disappointed when Roadside romeo didn't do well as I was hoping it would have. All I can do is support the animation industry with my best contribution and hope for the best.

horton hears a boo
With great animation comes great responsibility.....well i just saw horton hears a who made by blue sky studios ( one of my work wish-list studios :-)) and this is what i felt. Animation was brilliant and awe inspiring as usual, but with all the right animation well you might wonder if its a great movie, at least the kick ass trailers made it a hit.
I felt the characters not properly sketched out with voice talents, Jim carrey didnt do justice to a cute, sweet, courageous horton, the who-ville was cool but need more time on it. The 2d animated sequence was like where did that come from ( the edit was like way jarring).
Overall I am not a big fan of Dr Suess stories but blue sky did a commendable job in executing the story but the movie doesnt leave u all fuzzy and warm inside after u leave the theatre. Kinda disappointed (oh-well dont judge a film by its trailers).

Brad bird's new pixar movie
HUGE news out of the Walt Disney Co.'s shareholders' meeting today! I'm surprised that nobody else has picked up on the story yet. Animation fan Daikun, who attended the meeting, took lots of notes about what was said and posted them HERE. The big news is that he says a trailer was shown for Brad (THE INCREDIBLES) Bird's next film at Pixar. The film is RATATOUILLE, which will be released in summer 2007.
This is the first time that Bird's name has been officially associated with the film. The original director of the film had been Jan Pinkava, who had helmed the Oscar-winning Pixar short GERI'S GAME. While modern Disney films often times have had the original director replaced during the course of production, I believe that this is the first time a Pixar film has not had its original director see the film through completion. It obviously raises a lot of questions about what happened, but with Brad Bird directing, I think we can all be assured that the film is in good hands.
